Smashed Potatoes on Blackstone are so good!

Making smashed potatoes on a Blackstone griddle is the perfect way to elevate your outdoor cooking game. What we love about this recipe is how simple it is – boiled potatoes, smashed to perfection, and then griddled until crispy. These aren’t your average mashed or baked potatoes, they have perfectly crisp exterior and a creamy interior.

Top them off with a drizzle of garlic herb butter and you’ll have a new family favorite! These are perfect served with grilled steak, chicken, or pork.

DK’s tips

  • Make sure the potatoes are fully cooked before smashing or they won’t flatten very well.
  • That being said, don’t over smash the potatoes. You want them to stay in one piece for the griddling.
  • Leftovers will last up to 5 days in the fridge.
  • They can be reheated on your Blackstone griddle at 375ยฐF until warmed through or you can pan fry, air fry, or bake them in the oven.

Griddle Grill FAQ’s

Can I make smashed potatoes without a Blackstone griddle?

Yes, you can. Although a Blackstone griddle gives a unique flavor and crispness, you can also make smashed potatoes in your oven, in an air fryer, or on a regular grill.

Are smashed potatoes the same as mashed potatoes?

No, they aren’t. While both of these techniques involve cooked and crushed potatoes, mashed potatoes are fully mashed until smooth, usually with the addition of butter and cream. Smashed potatoes, on the other hand, are only partially crushed, resulting in a chunkier texture, and then cooked to a crispy finish.

Notes

  • Terrific optional toppings are sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and chives.
